Deputy Secretary of State Sherman outlines the status.
On Wednesday, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman spoke of the discussions that have taken place this week regarding Russia and Ukraine. She said, “The United States and our NATO Allies reiterated our shared commitment to diplomacy as the most durable path for building lasting security, and our willingness to engage Russia on security issues in a meaningful and reciprocal process.”
The deputy secretary stated that risk reduction and transparency, improved communication, and arms control are the reciprocal actions the U.S. and NATO are offering.
“Moscow is using increasingly aggressive rhetoric and spreading propaganda and disinformation, claiming that it is Ukraine seeking conflict, not Russia. Untrue,” Deputy Secretary Sherman continued. “We told the Russian delegation that we are united in our position that escalation does not create optimum conditions for diplomacy, to say the least.”
Russia has indicated diplomacy is at a dead end, while Poland has raised concerns over the risk of war.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Blinken and Deputy Secretary Sherman as they continue diplomatic efforts with Russia and Europe.
- For wisdom for the president and his advisors as they address Russia’s intentions toward Ukraine and apparent expansionist goals.
- For the people of Ukraine and across Eastern Europe who are living with the tensions on their doorstep.
